In last week’s LoveLetter, we talked about the importance of regulating our nervous systems during the holiday season, and I announced that I’d be sending out weekly tips through the holidays to help us all stay a little more sane. So here we go! I’m excited to kick this off with one of my favorites…
HOLIDAY TIP #1:
Create a Bubble of Protection
You can consider this a meditation or a guided visualization – whatever you want to call it that feels good to you. By the way, I realize that I’m leading with the most esoteric tip, but stick with me – it’s a really good one.
Step 1 – Find a comfortable and quiet spot to sit. Plant your feet on the ground beneath you, sit up with a tall and relaxed spine, and close your eyes.
Step 2 – Visualize starting at the top of your head and moving slowly all the way down through your body. As you do this, imagine that you are casting out all of the shit you’ve taken on. It’s like you’re a French press, and you’re slowly pushing down the plunger.
As you move your attention from your head down, imagine that you’re pushing out any energy, thoughts or emotions that you want to let go of. Push them all the way down and out through the bottom of your feet.
Step 3 – Start again at the top of your head, but this time imagine that you’re putting yourself in a bubble of protection.
You get to choose the color of your bubble. You get to decide if that bubble is super close like skin or whether it’s a bigger bubble. How does the bubble feel? Is it nice and cool, or does it envelop you in warmth? You get to create whatever bubble feels best for you. And your bubble may always stay the same, or it might change each time! Find your personal bubble bliss.
So once again, you’ll start your visualization at the top of your head and move all the way down through every part of your body – all the way down to the tips of your toes. And as you move through your body, imagine this energetic bubble of protection encircling you… keeping you safe, protecting your boundaries and your energy, helping you stay calm and centered with yourself.
You can do this visualization once a day, multiple times a day, or just during the times when you feel like you need it the most. It’s such a great “reset” button and only takes a few minutes (and I get it – sometimes “a few minutes” is all we have!).
I would love to hear how this visualization is working for you! Feel free to reply to this email and let me know, or head over to our private Facebook group – Beauty After Betrayal – and share your experiences in a safe community space where you can be supported by other women managing their stress levels during the holidays too.
