The leaves are falling, the temperatures are dropping, the days are getting shorter, and here we are again – heading into the holiday season.

Ideally, the holidays would be a time where we go inward, slow down, and spend our time reflecting and doing less. However, the reality for most of us is quite the opposite.

Does this scenario sound more like your holiday season?

Increased time spent with family and at social gatherings, traveling, shopping, decorating, cooking/baking, attending school programs & parties, and the list goes on…

Yeah. Me too.

As we crank up that knob of adrenaline and activity, it can not only cause us to become dysregulated, but it also increases our chances of being around other dysregulated people.

And if you have the tendency to be empathic (read last week’s LoveLetter to determine if you’re an empath!), then being around people who do not have good internal boundaries, means that you end up taking on their energy and their emotions.

But here’s the kicker – you were probably already dysregulated long before the holiday season hit.

Why? Well, if you’re like most of the clients I work with, your betrayal trauma has caused your nervous system to already be hyper-vigilant (trauma – the gift that keeps on giving). On top of that, we’re still in a global pandemic which has had everybody’s nervous systems cranked up for almost 2 years now.
